Fat loss program

Well it is official Australia is now the fattest nation in the world, with more than 9million adults classified as obese or overweight. Four million Australians are considered obese (26% of the adult population) and five million are considered overweight (33% of the adult population). Even fatter than America – how sad is that, but this can be rectified. Let me design a Fat Loss Program that is individually designed to suit you.

What may work for one person may not work for you, because after all we may have different likes and dislikes and even our metabolism may be either more or less efficient than others. There are so many different factors involved in gaining fat, so therefore there will be many different ways to lose this fat.

How can you expect yourself to know these reasons? You can’t that is why you need a Fat Loss Coach that is trained and qualified.

Being obese or overweight is extremely unhealthy and has been shown to increase your risk of many chronic illnesses, including Metabolic Syndrome.

This fat loss program is about Healthy Nutrition not Dieting. I can show you how to eat for the rest of your life not just for a few months and then go back to your old eating habits which caused the weight gain in the first place. You will not be hungry on this eating plan. The last thing you want is to feel deprived of something, that’s when your body goes into a phase called starvation mode, where it thinks there is a famine and so doesn’t let go of any of the stored energy (fat). Hence, no fat loss.

You will notice that it is a Fat Loss Program not a Weight Loss Program. Some diets you go on may help you lose weight, but what do you lose? It is not good to lose muscle which is often the case, because muscle is where you store your energy and also helps to burn the calories that you are consuming. Therefore muscle actually helps you to burn fat, thus lose weight, so you want to keep what muscle you have and possibly even build more.

I can show you how

By using cutting edge technology (Cellular Health Analysis - CHA) the levels of muscle and fat can be measured and this information is used to fine tune your program and making sure you are on track to reach your fat loss goals.

Glenise is a Fat Loss Coach. Often clients think they can lose weight on their own, and a few can but most need to be held accountable. Otherwise you think “Oh well, this piece of cake won’t hurt today and I’ll work harder tomorrow” or “I’ll start exercising tomorrow, its too dark or cold today”. But, if you know you have an appointment with your Fat Loss Coach in 2 weeks time you know that to reach your goals it is better for you to have an alternative type of food rather than that piece of cake or to get out of bed to exercise.

This really does make you feel better about yourself because you are the one doing all the work and achieving your goals. You are taking responsibility for your health and wellbeing. Giving you more self esteem when you look in the mirror and see a difference or when someone notices that you have lost weight and gives you a compliment. How good is that going to feel?

Increased energy is a side effect of the Fat Loss Program, so don’t bother to make an appointment if you don’t want extra energy.

Cardiovascular Health Program

Prevention is so much better than repair with this one - but both can be achieved - Glenise is able to assess and manage Cardiovascular Risk Factors.

Early regular health checks can make sure that this silent killer is not lurking, most often the first sign of cardiovascular disease is a heart attack and sometimes even death.

Did you know that one Australian dies every 10 minutes from cardiovascular disease?

The sad thing is that this is a ‘Lifestyle disease’ and it doesn’t have to happen, it can be helped and even prevented. Don’t wait until a disease process has begun in your body, be pro-active and make sure your lifestyle is helping you to stay healthy not setting you up for a fall.

There aren't any symptoms of high cholesterol, so if you don't get your levels checked then you don't know that you have high cholesterol. If you don't know that you have high cholesterol, then you can't do anything about reducing your levels.

High cholesterol is known as the 'SILENT KILLER'

But it is not all bad, cholesterol is a type of fat that is vital for life, meaning you can't live without it. It is a building block for many metabolic processes in the body including making hormones (such as sex hormones, thyroid hormones and stress hormones), supporting cell structure, helps in the formation of your memories, is vital for neurological function, helps produce Vitamin D and helps to make bile which breaks down the fat that you eat.

Cholesterol can be found in certain foods (e.g. meats, dairy products and eggs – however Mother Nature has included lecithin in eggs to prevent the absorption of the cholesterol), and is also made in your liver. Approximately 80% of cholesterol is made in the liver with the remaining 20% coming from your diet.

Too much cholesterol can be detrimental to your health by promoting fatty plaque deposits in blood vessels, known as atherosclerosis, increasing your risk of cardiovascular disease.

There are 3 different types of cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein and Triglycerides.

HDL the "good guy" removes the cholesterol from the tissues and takes it to the liver for breakdown and disposal. This is the one cholesterol particle that we want to have high.

LDL particles are the main source of cholesterol required by the body.
LDL the so called "bad guy" delivers the cholesterol to the tissues and this is a good thing. The problem arises when there are too many LDL particles and cholesterol can be deposited into the artery walls as plaques and this can eventually lead to blocked arteries.

Triglycerides are a storage form of fat. When saturated fats, grains and sugars are in excess of the needs of your body, they are converted to triglycerides in the liver. Elevated triglycerides increase LDL's and lower HDL's and have been linked to heart disease and diabetes. Triglyceride levels are known to also rise from being physically inactive, smoking cigarettes, large amounts of alcohol and being overweight or obese.

Elevated cholesterol levels are an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease when combined with other risk factors such as smoking, inactive lifestyle, overweight or obesity, a family history of heart disease or high blood pressure.

At The Natural Health Sanctum we can test your cholesterol levels in-clinic, and you can have your results in just 2 minutes. This test forms part of our Cardiovascular Health Program. Knowing the breakdown of your cholesterol results is very helpful, allowing Glenise to design an individual Cardiovascular Health Program to suit your individual needs.

Monitoring your cholesterol levels are paramount to maintaining a healthy life.

Inflammation Solutions Program

This program is about not just addressing the symptoms of inflammation which some of them can be severe, painful and debilitating. Symptoms can include pain, redness, heat, swelling, fever, general discomfort, uneasiness or ill feeling (malaise), muscle aches and/or agitation or confusion and sometimes there are no observable symptoms and inflammation can become “the silent killer” driving conditions such as Cardiovascular Disease (atherosclerosis), arthritis and cancer.

This program is also about addressing the causes of inflammation.

But, what are the causes of inflammation I hear you ask? Good question.

To start with let me tell you that inflammation is a beneficial process of the body designed to bring healing to a damaged area and is also a protective mechanism.

Inflammation becomes a problem when it becomes extreme, progressively destructive and/or persistent or recurrent. In these cases, the beneficial response to acute injury transforms into a detrimental process that injures the same tissue it was designed to heal. This damage can be equivalent to, or greater than, the original injury. If it hurts, you can be fairly sure inflammation is involved.

So, back to the causes of inflammation which can be many and varied. But typically the inflammation response is triggered by an injury. Now, that injury can be something such as an injury caused by impact, a wound, or an injury caused by a harmful agent, or an injury caused by something that can cause an irritation, things such as wear and tear on joints etc and these injuries can be either internal or external.

Other triggering factors of inflammation include infection, nutritional deficiency, diet and lifestyle choices, toxicity and stress.
The ultimate goal of inflammation is to seal off the area, kill the invaders, remove damaged tissue and cells, and rebuild the area.

Sometimes inflammation is not restricted to one spot, but is spread throughout the body. An example of this is someone who has the ‘flu’. They often suffer body aches and pains, have a fever, are exhausted and have no appetite. These are symptoms of systemic (affecting the whole body) inflammation.

If the immune system is not able to resolve the problem, then the inflammation can become chronic (long term). This leads to tissue damage, long term pain, fatigue and disability.

Many diseases are characterised by chronic, unresolved inflammation.

At this point your body needs assistance to get back into balance and resolve the problem.

If you suffer from:

  • Obesity
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Diabetes Type 11
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • High stress
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Recurrent infections/allergies
  • Insulin Resistance/Metabolic Syndrome
  • Digestive system disturbances

Then your inflammation requires addressing now, because fortunately there are a number of highly effective and safe natural anti-inflammatory remedies that I can recommend. Without the nasty side effects of the main stream anti-inflammatories.

Wellness Program

This is the one for you when you are in good health and helps to keep you that way, with a check up (including tests) 2-3 times a year.

All of the top killers today (cancer, heart attacks, cardiovascular disease, diabetes), are what we class as ‘Lifestyle diseases’. That means with the correct lifestyle (correct nutrition, exercise, relaxation etc) these diseases are preventable.

For some of us there are strong family histories or heart disease, cancer, allergies, arthritis and many other conditions. You can minimize the risks of developing these degenerative diseases with appropriate food, nutritional supplements, herbs and maintaining good health.

The tests that are performed are checking to see if any of the early warning signs are detectable, and thus it is possible to deal with them early. Rather than waiting until a dis-ease process is occurring and then trying to rid your body of the ‘dis-ease’, it is much easier to deal with the early warning signals.

It takes many years of treating your body inappropriately to develop these Western Lifestyle diseases, including ignoring many of the early warning signals that the body is trying to alert you to the imbalance occurring. The Wellness Program is designed to pick up on these early warning indicators if they occur and Glenise can then design an individual health promoting program.

Participation in the Wellness Program is the best way to stay on track. Maintaining your body surely is much more important than maintaining your car – a regular service (check up) will save you a lot in the long run.

Digestive Health Program

Are you sick of the bloating, burping, indigestion, reflux, flatulence, nausea, poor appetite or increased appetite, constipation or diarrhoea or both, pains? A Digestive Health Program works toward ridding your body of these symptoms. If your digestive system is working efficiently these symptoms disappear.

Often reflux is a symptom of low stomach acid, rather than too much stomach acid which is what most people think. Thus those antacids that people take to reduce stomach acid can be complicating the picture immensely.

Did you know that the digestive system is home to approximately one and a half kilos of bacteria? Some bacteria are beneficial and produce a number of chemicals required for good health and help with digestion of some foods. Other bacteria are harmful releasing toxins into our systems that cause several symptoms such as nausea, bloating, pain, constipation and diarrhoea. If your ‘good bacteria’ is destroyed in any way (such as antibiotics, steroid hormone medication, the pill, bad diet, high sugar diets, stress) then the ‘harmful bacteria’ takes over and causes even more toxins released into your body, leading to a toxic build up.

With a few quick and easy tests (Urinary Indican Test – UIT, pH – acidity levels) to ascertain the health of your digestive system, then a program is designed to remedy the imbalance. Often a liver and digestive detoxification program is required.

Women’s Reproductive Health

Female hormonal, menstruation and reproductive disorders are amongst the most common reason why I see most of my female clients. It is estimated that as many as 90% of women of reproductive age experience some menstrual and/or hormonal disorder that affects them on a regular basis.

This includes conditions such as:

  • premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
  • painful periods
  • irregular periods
  • heavy periods
  • endometriosis
  • uterine fibroids
  • polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • pre-conception care
  • healthy pregnancy care
  • infertility both male and female

Restoring balance to your reproductive system, can be achieved through appropriate dietary and lifestyle changes, and through the use of specialised natural herbs and supplements.

Food Intolerance Program

Glenise McLaughlin specializes in the testing and natural treatment of Food Intolerances in adults, children and babies.
Food intolerances may cause a range of slow-onset symptoms that are seemingly unconnected to specific foods. Symptoms can take up to 72 hours to appear, in which time a lot of different types of food and drink have been consumed baffling the sufferer as to what has caused their discomfort. Although not life threatening, the impact on sufferers (and their parents) can be significant, sometimes affecting their ability to live normal lives.

Symptoms of food intolerance are many and varied and can include:

  • Tired, exhausted, lethargic
  • Anxiety (acute/chronic)
  • Run down, low immunity
  • Arthritis
  • ADD
  • Bed wetting
  • Bloating and gas problems
  • Eating problems
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Depression, moody, cranky
  • Poor growth (height/weight)
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Runny nose and sinus problems
  • infertility
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Poor sleep
  • Itchy skin problems (ie: eczema)
  • Gastric reflux, heartburn, swallowing problems
  • Reflux in babies
  • Inconsolable crying in babies
  • Mood swings
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Weight control problems – and many, many more.

Sufferers can often complain of seeming to be in a 'fog', unable to concentrate clearly, feeling bloated and being tired all the time.

Many things can cause the digestive system to be damaged and become a "leaky gut" allowing partially undigested foods to cross into your system. This then creates a reaction from the immune system creating an intolerance (immune response) to that food. Once the digestive system walls are damaged, you may become intolerant to multiple foods.

Up until now, food intolerances have been very difficult and time consuming to diagnose, due to the vagueness of the symptoms and the time lapse.

Now a quick, reliable, simple and safe test for food intolerance to 59 of the most reactive foods is available at The Natural Health Sanctum.

This procedure is the world's first in-clinic macro-assay test available for food intolerance. This test now forms part of our comprehensive Food Intolerance Program, which is specifically tailored to suit each individuals needs.

The foods that are tested are:

  • oat
  • wheat
  • rice
  • corn
  • rye
  • durum wheat
  • gluten
  • almond
  • brazil
  • cashew
  • tea
  • walnut
  • cow's milk
  • whole egg
  • chicken
  • lamb
  • beef
  • pork
  • white fish
  • freshwater fish
  • tuna
  • shellfish
  • broccoli
  • cabbage
  • carrot
  • leek
  • potato
  • celery
  • cucumber
  • peppers
  • legume mix
  • grapefruit
  • melon mix
  • peanut
  • soya bean
  • cocoa bean
  • apple
  • blackcurrant
  • olive
  • orange & lemon
  • strawberry
  • tomato
  • ginger
  • garlic
  • mushroom
  • yeast

As you can see, quite a comprehensive list of the usual foods that forms part of the Western style diet.

Peace of mind can be yours, because you will know if you are reacting negatively to foods, you will know which foods and you will know the foods to avoid. No more guess work.

Be quick, be smart, be symptom free – book in for your Food Intolerance Program now.

Detoxification (both liver and digestive) Program

This is a simple and easy detoxification program designed to reduce toxin exposure through dietary and lifestyle changes, remove bad bacteria and waste from your digestive system, renew and rebuild your digestive lining, and as well as replace the bad bacteria with healthy ones, improve your digestive function and help your body release toxins more effectively. This program should not be attempted during pregnancy, but should be part of your preconception program.

Your body is designed to remove the toxins that you ingest as food or with food, medications, air that we breathe, water we drink or bathe in, toxins absorb through your skin and hormones and other chemicals that are produced in the body. If for one reason or another the body is unable to remove these toxins the body stores them for many years in your tissues and fat, becoming an ongoing source of ill health.

Occasionally, people who attempt a detoxification program that is not monitored particularly an over-the-counter detoxification program can experience some adverse symptoms such as nausea, changes in bowel function and headaches or that they don't work at all. These symptoms can be annoying, unpleasant and sometimes requiring time off work and are often due to the fact that the detoxification systems/organs of your body is not treated in the correct order. However, if monitored by a qualified Naturopath they are less likely to occur, I can test your urine to make sure the detoxification program is working and actually clearing your body of toxins.

Detoxification can affect the way some medicines work, this is another reason why detoxification programs need to be monitored.

Any disease can be made worse by toxicity: however some of the most common signs and symptoms of too much toxicity in the body include:

  • Recurrent headaches
  • Muscle aching and weakness
  • Nerve pain or numbness
  • Recurrent infections
  • Poor short-term memory and concentration
  • Sensitivity to environmental chemicals, odours and/or nutritional supplements
  • Chronic fatigue and lethargy
  • Anxiety and/or mood swings

Natural Menopause Symptom Relief

Glenise Specialises in treating Menopausal Women.

Menopause, perimenopause ( the term used to define the transitional phase beginning with the first clinical, biological and endocrinological feature of the approaching menopause – meaning from your first menopausal symptom such as hot flushes &/or menstrual irregularities, and ends 12 months after the last menstrual period), although a natural event in women’s lives can cause several symptoms that do disrupt normal daily functioning.

Some medical experts have offered alternative names for menopause that do sound as if perimenopause is a disease, such as ‘adult onset ovarian failure’.

Rather than looking at menopause as an “oestrogen deficient” condition therefore needing “oestrogen replacement”, we can now view menopause as a normal part of every woman’s life.

A menopausal, perimenopausal, postmenopausal woman does not need fixing, she needs help through a biological event, menopause is a natural process of the female body. Puberty is a natural process of the human body and is not looked upon as something that needs to be fixed, so why do some parts of society today believe menopause needs fixing?

Natural Medicine has a lot to offer the perimenopausal (not yet reached the classification of menopause ie: without a period for 12 months) and menopausal woman. Education about lifestyle, diet, herbal support, homoeopathy and supplements is a must for any woman going through this stage in her life.

Men’s Health

Men’s health is very important. The motto that I have heard so many times from my male clients is “don’t fix it if it’s not broken” and sometimes this is ok. However, most men always seem to leave nagging symptoms to their own devices for quite a while before they seek advice. This is not a good thing, your body is trying to tell you something via those symptoms – it is saying “Hey, things are not working as they should be, maybe we should get that looked into.”

Men don’t always express their emotional states (ie: stress) well either and that has a negative effect on the body. Once you have experienced stress (emotional, physical or perceived) your body has a physiological response and releases stress hormones (adrenalin and cortisol), if these are not used up by the body via “running away from stressful situation” or worse still “punching them in the nose” (fight or flight response) then these stress hormones continue to circulate in your blood for the rest of the day.

Then when it comes time to leave work these hormones are still there, in the car on the way home – still there if not increased by traffic stress. At home with family – still there, trying to get to sleep at night – still there. Do you think it might be difficult to get a good nights sleep? You bet. So you wake in the morning from a non-refreshing nights sleep and start all over again. Not a good recipe for a long happy life!!!!!! Not getting a good nights sleep is classed as a stress – sleep deprivation is even used as a torture.

Advice on lifestyle, diet and supplements can help lead to a happy, healthy productive life.

Children’s Health

We all want our children to be the best, the happiest and the healthiest they can be. Is your child meeting their potential?

One simple fact is for certain, kids do have special health requirements. Children are not simply smaller versions of adults. Children are actually physiologically different in the way their bodies work compared to adults. Kids need specific remedies for their specific needs. Don’t rush for the antibiotics every time your child gets the sniffles - Herbs, Homoeopathy, Supplements and Dietary changes can get great results without the nasty side effects. Leave the antibiotics as a last resort – then they will work when they really have too.
